I am the bad guy.
Sometimes being nice doesn't work. Sometimes, to get things done, you have to be the bad guy.
Being the bad guy is something I'm good at, and that sucks.
Being THE bad guy does not make you A bad guy. You filled a role, and so far you seemed to have pulled it off pretty well. The folks that can't tell the difference? Screw 'em.
